A Man's Field Guide to Women: Ms. Go-Getter

Ms. Go-Getter:

-         General Characteristics – You’ve seen her on Oprah, written about in countless magazines or in a number of Tyler Perry movies. She’s got the house, a nice car and a fancy degree, but no man. She works hard in her chosen profession and has reaped the rewards, financially.  However, her personal life has paid the price. We all know how her commitment to work has made little time for establishing lasting relationships. But she has a second issue which is seldom discussed. She makes too much money. Now, that is not a problem, but it is an issue, because she often allows it to be. Women above a certain age were raised with the expectation that their husband/man should earn more than them. However, the world has changed and many Ms. Go-Getters are having difficulty letting go of their expectation (and as we know, it’s hard to be happy when realities do not meet expectations) and simply can’t date a man making less than them. This is a transition period for western women, and Gen-X and Echo-Boomers are caught right in the middle of it. Go-Getters under 25 will not have this issue, because in a few years it will be the norm.

-         Found in – Shaking their collective heads.

-         Relations after Marriage – Ironically, often different from the way they were raised. They will often work late and may not cook too many meals in the home, so you’ll eat out a lot. But, it won’t be Mickey D’s, trust and believe.

-         Fidelity – Average.

-         Finances – Great.

-         Chances – Statistically speaking, not good.

-         Future prospects – Who knows. When her male contemporaries can just as easily date the Starbucks barista as they can the brain surgeon, it puts Ms. Go-Getter in a severe, self-imposed, numerical disadvantage. But it should be noted that many of these women are just find being single, and would prefer to remain so, than to “settle” for less than what they want and/or expect. Yes, I know a few, and no, I’m not calling them out.
